What is Subclass 164 Visa?
This Subclass, one of the subclasses under Business Skills Program, is for senior executive employees of major overseas businesses who have been responsible for strategic policy development affecting a major component or a wide range of operations of that business, who have significant net assets and a genuine and realistic commitment to participate as a principal in the management of a new or existing business. This subclass needs sponsorship by a State/Territory government, with lower level criteria applying.
Subclass 164 was closed to new applicants from 1 July 2012 but remains open for adding secondary/dependent applicants. The Business Skills Program was replaced by the Business Innovation and Investment program (insert hyperlink to Subclass 188 ).
Current holder of Subclass 161 must apply for the ‘pre-1 July 2012’ permanent Business Skills visas (insert hyperlink to subclass 890 and 892).
