Skills Assessment Document Checklist for VETASSESS

For skilled migrants aiming for an Australian visa, having a positive skills assessment as evidence of your work experience is an important step. VETASSESS is a key assessing authority for most occupations. This checklist serves as a general guide to the essential documents required for a VETASSESS skills assessment. Please note that some specific occupations may require additional supporting documents beyond the general listed documents. 

Skills Assessment Document Checklist for VETASSESS 

Applicants must gather and prepare the documents listed below for the skills assessment. Below is a general guide and is not limited to your specific circumstances:  

Identity documents - to provide at least 3 identity documents. 

  • Primary list 

    • Passport bio page 

    • Birth certificate 

  • Secondary list 

    • National identity card 

    • Driver licence 

    • Marriage certificate 

    • Student ID card 

    • Australian visa 

  • Change of name (if applicable) 

Photograph 

  • One recent (no more than 6 months old) passport-sized colour photograph. Self-taken photographs are unacceptable. 

Resume / Curriculum Vitae (CV) 

  • A detailed CV outlining your academic studies (major focus, projects) and a comprehensive history of your employment. 

Qualification Evidence Documents 

  • Award certificate 

  • Academic transcripts 

Employment Evidence Documents 

  • Statement of Service, a formal letter from your employer, signed by your direct supervisor or HR manager. In the letter, it must include:  

    • Issue date,  

    • Company letterhead,  

    • Applicant's full name,  

    • Working hours,  

    • Official position title(s),  

    • Exact start and end dates for each position,  

    • List main duties for each position,  

    • Earned salary, and  

    • Full contact details of the referee. 

  • Payment Evidence 

    • Payslips (at least two copies, ideally the first and last payslip) 

    • Taxation records 

    • Bank statements 

    • Employment-linked insurance or superannuation records 

  • Self-Employed Applicants 

    • Evidence of self-employment 

    • Statutory declaration 

    • Payment evidence 

    • Supplementary evidence 

  • Organisational Chart 

  • Evidence of Activities/Portfolio/Project List (only for certain occupations) 

  • Additional Employment Evidence  

    • Professional licence or registration documents 

    • Prizes or certificates 

    • Evidence of professional development 

Statutory Declaration 

  • Provide a Statutory Declaration if official documents cannot be obtained
