Annual Indexation of the CSIT and SSIT – Effective 1 July 2026
The Australian Government has confirmed the annual indexation of the Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) and the Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) for the Skills in Demand (SID) (Subclass 482) visa and Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) visa programs, with updated thresholds coming into effect on 1 July 2026.
Each year, the CSIT and SSIT are adjusted in accordance with regulation 5.42A of the Migration Regulations, which prescribes a formula based on the Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE) figures published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. This mechanism ensures that income thresholds remain aligned with labour market conditions and wage trends.
With the release of the November 2025 AWOTE data, the thresholds for the 2026-27 program year have now been calculated.
Updated CSIT & SSIT from 1 July 2026
CSIT will increase to $79,499 (Current 2025–26 value is $76,515)
SSIT will increase to $146,717 (Current 2025–26 value is $141,210)
These indexed thresholds will apply to all SC 482 and SC186 visa applications lodged on or after 1 July 2026.
What This Update Means for Employers and Visa Applicants?
Employers sponsoring overseas workers under the SC 482 or SC186 visa programs must ensure that any proposed salary meets or exceeds the updated CSIT or SSIT for applications submitted on or after 1 July 2026.
Individuals who are planning to apply for these work visas should also be aware of the revised thresholds when assessing eligibility and preparing documentation for upcoming applications.
