Are you a highly skilled professional or specialist in certain areas and interested in staying in Australia permanently? You may be eligible to apply for a Global Talent Visa (GTI) (subclass 858).
What is a Global Talent Visa (GTI)?
The Global Talent Visa Program is a streamlined visa pathway. It is for highly skilled professionals, senior executives, and exceptional individuals to work and live permanently in Australia. This visa also attracts a significant amount of PhD students with the demonstration of their exceptional talent and international recognition in a target sector.
There are 2 visa pathways for GTI:
the Global Talent visa pathway - an opportunity for highly skilled people in the target sectors; and
the Distinguished Talent pathway - a pathway for exceptional and outstanding individuals who do not fit into any Global Talent sector. Some examples are Olympic athletes and famous musicians.

enrol in Australia's public health care scheme, Medicare
sponsor your relatives to come to Australia
travel to and from Australia for 5 years
if eligible, apply for Australian citizenship
What requirements for the GTI?
Applicants must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and receive an invitation to apply under this pathway.
To be eligible for a Global Talent visa, candidates must:
prove they are internationally recognised with evidence of outstanding achievements
still, be prominent in their field of expertise
provide evidence that they would be an asset to Australia, in their area of expertise
have no difficulty obtaining employment in Australia or becoming established in their field
have a recognised organisation or individual (“nominator”) with a national reputation in the same field in Australia nominate them as global talent.
Candidates must meet a high standard and show an exceptional track record of professional achievement. This may include:
senior roles
patents
professional awards
International publications
memberships.
A candidate is also able to attract a salary that meets the Fair Work high-income threshold, currently at $162,000 as of 1 July 2022.
5. To be invited to apply for a visa under the Global Talent Visa Program, a candidate will be highly skilled in one of the 10 target sectors, including:
Resources
Agri-food and AgTech
Energy
Health industries
Defence, advanced manufacturing, and space
Circular economy
Digitech
Infrastructure and tourism
Financial services and FinTech
Education
The best advantage to apply for a global talent visa is the quick processing time. 75% of applications can be processed within 71 days. As of the skilled and talented nature of candidates, most of them considering being nominated for the global talent visa may also be eligible for other permanent visas, i.e. Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190), Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186).
