· Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186)

o Direct entry only

· Temporary Skill Shortage visa (TSS)

o Subclass 482 – Only for specific occupations and applicants

· Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional)

o Subclass 494

· Temporary Graduate visa

o Subclass 485

From Below... This Is Not Accurate.

This only applies to trade occupations that require assessments from Trades Recognition Australia.

VETASSESS is only one of the RTOs that assesses for only certain trade occupations.

For a certain number of trade occupations that require assessments from Trade Recognition Australia, VETASSESS (which is one of the Registered Training Organisation), for example, carry out skills assessment and the procedures largely consist of two stages:

· Claiming work experience; and

· Technical interview

In the first stage, you are required to provide evidentiary documents for your work experience and qualifications. In this stage, your skills and qualifications are assessed solely based on the documentary evidence you provided. Also, this depends on whether you have an Australian qualification or occupational license one needs to take a different pathway as follows:

Pathway 1 – Not Having Australian Qualification Or Occupational Licence

As part of the application process, you need to provide evidence of your employment, skills and knowledge. Your evidence must show you meet the minimum employment experience requirements for your nominated occupation:

· Licensed Trades - 6 years' employment experience (with no formal training)

· Licensed Trades - 4 years' employment experience (with relevant formal training)

· Non-licensed Trades - 5 years' employment experience (with no formal training)

· Non-licensed Trades - 3 years' employment experience (with relevant formal training)

Your evidence must show you have worked in your occupation for at least 12 months within the last 3 years and must be able to be verified.

For more information regarding the employment experience requirements for a Pathway 1 application, please refer to the Pathway 1 Employment Experience Guidelines.

After you have uploaded all relevant and verifiable evidence, you will pay for the first stage of the assessment. You will be required to submit payment directly to Trades Recognition Australia.

  • Documentary evidence assessment

  • Technical interview

Pathway 2 – Having Australian Qualification Or Occupational Licence

As part of the application process, you must provide:

· a copy of your Australian qualification (including a Statement of Results) OR your current Australian occupational licence. Refer to Frequently Asked Questions on this page to see what qualifications and licences are accepted - you must submit an accepted qualification/licence at the time of application.

· evidence you have worked in paid employment in your occupation for at least 3 years full-time (or part-time equivalent) at the skill level required.

· evidence you have worked full-time in your occupation for 12 months in the last 3 years. For applicants in licensed trades who hold an Australian qualification, this employment must have been in Australia, and for Australian occupational licence holders – in Australia or New Zealand.

For more information regarding the employment experience requirements for a Pathway 2 application, please refer to the Pathway 2 Candidate Guide.

After you have uploaded all relevant and verifiable evidence, you will pay for the first stage of the assessment. You will be required to submit payment directly to Trades Recognition Australia.

  • Documentary evidence assessment

  • Technical interview

For the reasons, you are required to follow VETASSESS’s instructions and requirements thoroughly without fail as their assessment requirements are fairly strict and failure of following the instructions by providing the necessary documents with specific information will put your application at risk of being successful outcome (of course, your hard-earned money too!).

If the first stage is all cleared and passed, the second stage involves a technical interview in which your skills are demonstrated in front of an assessor/s.

How Can You Prepare For Your Technical Interview?

You need to:

understand what skills you need to have to be employed and work effectively in your trade in Australia

you will be asked about different skills you use, including how you communicate at work, solve problems, etc

think about other training you have done, (e.g. first aid course) and how this relates to your employment.

Also, taking a subclass 482 visa as an example, a skill assessment is mandatory depending on occupations and nationality; and a skill assessment procedure and evidentiary documents requirement are not as simple it looks at a glance. Also, one has enough experience, but no qualifications obtained ever.
