Subclass 189 NZ Stream Threshold Salary Requirements

In light of the recent pandemic, the Government announced in the July 2020 Economic and Fiscal Update that the income eligibility requirement for the Subclass 189 New Zealand stream of the Skilled Independent pathway would be eased, with the taxable income at or above the Temporary Skilled Migrant Income Threshold being required for at least three of the last five income years, including the most recent taxation year, currently being set at $ 53,900.00.

This change of policy consideration seems to be in line and forms part of the Government economic response to COVID-19, there are currently two views of understanding the statements:

  • NZ citizen has met the salary threshold for three in five years, including the year immediately before applying, or

  • NZ citizens need to demonstrate they have met the salary threshold for any of the three in five years, immediately before applying.
