Australia offers a wide range of visa options for Indian passport holders, depending on your objective, whether you are looking to work, study, visit, reunite with family, or migrate permanently. You may be able to find a suitable visa depending on your circumstances.
What Australian Visa Am I Eligible For?
Depending on your visa objective, there are a few visas pathway for you to choose:
If you wish to gain some work experience in Australia temporarily:
The Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) has introduced a new visa stream exclusively for Indian citizens, which is the Temporary Work (Subclass 403) Visa - Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early Professionals Scheme (MATES) stream. This temporary visa allows the applicant to live and work in Australia for up to 2 years. Early-career Indian graduates in specific fields and industry such as tech, engineering and renewable energy are eligible to apply through a pre-ballot system.
In October 2024, India has been added as one of the eligible countries to apply for the Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462). This visa allows Indian citizens between 18 to 30 years old to apply through a pre-application ballot program to live and work in Australia temporarily.
If you wish to migrate to Australia permanently:
General Skilled Migration (GSM) may be a good option for you to explore. The GSM program includes visas such as: Skilled Independent (Subclass 189), Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 491).
Skill in Demand (SID) visa (Subclass 482), an employer-sponsored visa can also be a pathway to permanent residency (PR). After holding this visa for 2 years, then you may be eligible for Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) - Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream.
If you wish to study in Australia:
Apply for a Student visa (Subclass 500), which allows you to study full time in Australia. This visa also leads to pathways such as Temporary Graduate visa (Subclass 485) which then open ups to multiple visas pathway.
If you wish to reunite with your family:
Indian citizens with an Australian citizen, or PR spouse or partner, or with Australian children, may apply for:
