Can I Apply for a Parent Visa If My Children Are on a Subclass 482 Visa?

The desire to reunite with family can be a strong motivator factor for many people seeking to move to Australia. If you have children living in Australia holding a Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) or Skills in Demand (SID) visa (Subclass 482), you might wonder whether you can apply for a parent Visa to join them.

What are the Skills in Demand (SID) (Subclass 482)?

The SID (Subclass 482) visa allows employers in Australia to sponsor skilled overseas workers to fill positions that the local workforce cannot fill. This visa is temporary, meaning it has a limited duration, typically ranging from one to four years, depending on the visa stream.

What are the Sponsorship Eligibility requirements for the Parent Visa?

An Australian citizen, permanent resident (PR), or an eligible New Zealand citizen is eligible to sponsor their parents on one of the Parent visas. What Are Your Australian Visa Options As A Parent?

If your children eventually become Australian citizens or permanent residents, they may then be eligible to sponsor you for a Parent visa. In the meantime, you may be eligible to apply for a Visitor visa (Subclass 600) to visit your children temporarily. Alternatively, seek professional guidance from an immigration lawyer, as immigration regulations are complex and change frequently. They can assess your situation, explore all available options, and provide advice tailored to your objective.
