Got a New Passport? Update the Department Immediately Before You Travel
Travelling overseas soon on your temporary visas or Bridging Visa B (BVB) (Subclass 020)? If you’ve recently received a new passport, one important step before your next journey is to update the Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) with your new passport details.
Why Do I Need to Update My Passport Details?
Updating your passport details ensures your visa status is linked to your current passport through ImmiAccount. Failure to update can result in delays or issues at the border, as your old passport won’t match the visa records. Additionally, depending on the visa subclass, this may also impact your visa status.
Australian visas are electronically linked to your passport. If your passport details change due to a new renewal, DoHA needs this information to avoid invalidating your travel authority.
We encourage you to update your passport details as soon as possible. DoHA may need 1 – 3 days through ImmiAccount to process and update your new passport details to link it to your current visa. This also means any last-minute changes may affect your travelling plans and possibly your re-entry to Australia.
