2025-26 Migration Program Planning Levels and State (SA, TAS, WA) Allocation Update
The Australian government has officially announced that the 2025-26 Migration Program will set at 185,000 places on 2 September 2025, maintaining the same levels as the 2024-25 program.
Migration Program Composition for 2025-26
Skill Stream: 132,200 (around 71%)
Family Stream: 52,500 (around 28%)
Special Eligibility Stream: 300 places
The breakdown of visa categories remains consistent with the 2024-25 planning levels. The major change is the replacement of the Global Talent and Distinguished Talent visa categories with the new National Innovation Visa (NIV) (Subclass 858) category, aligning with Australia’s focus on innovation and talent attraction.
State and Territory Nomination Allocations
As of now, the detailed state and territory nomination allocation for 2025-26 has not yet been released. However, there has been some interim updates from South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia.
South Australia (SA)
The South Australia (SA) Government has announced that it received a small interim allocation for the 2025-26 program year from the federal government. Due to the limited allocation, South Australia’s Skilled and Business Migration (SBM) program will temporarily pause accepting new Registration of Interest (ROI) applications.
Tasmania (TAS)
Tasmania has received an interim allocation of 165 skilled visa nomination places for 2025-26; 85 for Skilled Nominated (Permanent) (Subclass 190) visa and 80 places for Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 491) visa. These places are primarily being used to finalise nominations for provisionally approved applicants who could not be nominated under the 2024-25 quota. The State Nomination Program remains closed for new registrations at this time, pending the full allocation of the program.
Western Australia (WA)
Western Australia (WA) has also received a small interim allocation to manage the remaining applicants from the 2024-25 program. Similar to TAS and SA, the state will not open its 2025-26 State Nomination Migration Program until the full allocation is confirmed.
