Hobart Graduates: 2 Year Visa Available for SC 485 2nd PHEW Stream
Great news for international graduates in Hobart, Tasmania! As of 12 September 2025, the Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) has updated its procedures for the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485), which is beneficial for those who studied and resided in Hobart and surrounding areas.
What has changed for the Temporary Graduate Visa (SC485) for International Graduates in Hobart?
Higher education graduates who completed their studies and lived in Hobart or surrounding postcodes are now eligible for a two-year Second Post-Higher Education Work (PHEW) stream visa.
This aligns Hobart with other eligible regional areas, ensuring that all higher education graduates meeting the Second PHEW criteria in Tasmania postcodes can now enjoy a longer visa validity.
The previous PHEW visa validity was only for one year.
With this change, graduates now have a better opportunity to secure employment and with the extra year to gain work experience for a future visa pathway to meet their visa objective.
