Training Visa (Subclass 407) Visa Requires Approved Nomination Before Visa Lodgement Effective 11 March 2026
Significant regulatory changes to the Training Visa (Subclass 407) will take effect from 11 March 2026 under the Migration Amendment (Training Visas—Sponsorship Requirements) Regulations 2026. These updates introduce stricter compliance measures for sponsorship and nomination processes to ensure greater integrity in the training visa (SC407).
What are the Key Changes?
For a valid Subclass 407 visa application lodged on or after 11 March 2026, applicants will now require:
An approved Temporary Activities Sponsor (TAS) before applying their visa application.
A current, approved nomination for a program of occupational training, if the sponsor is not a Commonwealth agency.
These amendments repeal and replace existing items in subclause 1238(3) of Schedule 1 and have now been formally registered today (10 March 2026) on the Federal Register of Legislation.
What is the Key Impact for Training (Subclass 407) Visa Applicants?
A major consequence of the new change is that visa applicants cannot lodge their SC407 visa application until their SC407 nomination has been approved. As a result, no bridging visa will be issued until the nomination is granted. This change may lead to longer overall processing times, and all sponsorship and nomination steps must be completed promptly before lodging their visa application to avoid delays or refusals.
What Applicants Should Do?
Given the increased importance of timing and compliance, prospective applicants and sponsors are strong encouraged to prepare documentation early and seek professional guidance to avoid delays or refusal risks under the new framework.
