ImmiAccount to Implement Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) from June 2025
Starting 18 June 2025, the Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) will introduce Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) in ImmiAccount to enhance security and protect user accounts. This upgrade means that both new and existing users will need to set up MFA when creating or logging into their ImmiAccount. Once enabled, MFA will be required for every login or account change.
How Do I Set Up the Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) in ImmiAccount?
To prepare for this transition, we have put together how to set up your MFA in your ImmiAccount. There are multiple ways for you to set up the MFA for your ImmiAccount:
Option 1: Setting up a new Authenticator App using a Mobile Device
You can use your mobile device by accessing the App Store for iOS or the Google Play Store for Android.
Search for and download an authenticator app of your choice. The Department does not provide its own app.
Follow the instructions to set it up.
Option 2: Setting up a new Authenticator App using a Personal Computer
Use “KeePass”, an authenticator app available for PCs. Download KeePass from its official site and follow the installation guide to set up.
Option 3: Using an Existing Authenticator App
Open your authenticator app and add ImmiAccount as a new account using the add (+) icon.
Scan the QR code displayed when setting up MFA in ImmiAccount.
Alternatively, you can manually enter the shared secret key if QR code scanning is not working.
Option 4: Email Authentication
Email authentication remains an option for those who need it.
A code will be sent to your verified email address, which you need to input into ImmiAccount to complete the login process.
Once the MFA is set up and activated, every login attempt will prompt a 6-digit code sent to your authenticator app or via email, depending on your setup choice.
