Clarification on Information and Organisation Professionals nec (ANZSCO 224999) Occupation for SC186 and GSM

There is an ongoing confusion around the correct skills assessing authority for the occupation Information and Organisation Professionals nec (ANZSCO 224999), particularly because the requirements differ depending on the visa subclass.

Skills Assessment for GSM Visas (Subclass 189, 190 and 491)

For General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas, the assessing authority depends on how the occupation is classified:

However, confusion arises because the legislation instrument LIN 19/051 does not clearly specify an assessing authority for ANZSCO 224999. As a result, GSM applicants must carefully cross-check occupation classifications and policy guidance to ensure the correct authority is used.

Skills Assessment for Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186)

For the ENS SC186 visa, the position is clearer. Under legislative instrument LIN 24/093, VETASSESS is specified as the skills assessing authority for Information and Organisation Professionals nec (ANZSCO 224999). Where the role, Data Scientist (ANZSCO 224115), is treated as a separate occupation with ACS as the relevant assessing authority under the SC186 program.
