Goldfields DAMA Transition: What Employers and Workers Need to Know
For employers in the Goldfields region or skilled workers currently supported by the Goldfields Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA), there are some upcoming changes. The Goldfields DAMA will officially end on 30 June 2026. Moving forward, the region will be integrated into the broader Western Australian (WA) DAMA. This transition ensures that employers in the Goldfields can continue to access skilled migration pathways under a statewide framework starting from 1 July 2026.
Key Deadlines for the Goldfields Transition
The transition process involves a shift in which the government body handles your endorsement. Below is the timeline for the final weeks of the current program:
5 June 2026 – Final day that the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder can issue endorsement letters under the original Goldfields DAMA.
8 June 2026 – Goldfields’ employers can begin submitting new endorsement applications to the state-level Department of Training and Workforce Development under the Western Australia (WA) DAMA framework.
30 June 2026 – Goldfields’ DAMA officially ceases to exist at midnight.
1 July 2026 – The Department of Training and Workforce Development (through Migration Services) will begin assessing all applications for Goldfields’ employers under the new WA DAMA rules.
What Changes for Goldfields’ Employers?
The most significant change is the shift in authority. Previously, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder acted as the Designated Area Representative (DAR). Under the new arrangement, the Department of Training and Workforce Development will take over this role.
While the transition is designed to be seamless, employers should review the specific requirements of the WA DAMA. Each DAMA has its own set of occupations and concessions, such as English language or age requirements. It is essential to confirm that the occupation you intend to nominate is supported under the statewide agreement.
If you are planning a new sponsorship, gather your documents now so you are ready to lodge under the WA DAMA portal. Ensure to double-check the required roles listed on the WA DAMA occupation list.
