When Do English Language Test Retakes (OSR/SSR) Apply for Australian Visas?

The Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) has provided clarification on the acceptance of One Skill Retake (OSR) and Single Section Retake (SSR) for English language tests, particularly in light of recent policy changes.

What are the Key Clarifications on OSR/SSR Acceptance for English Tests?

What are OSR and SSR?

  • IELTS OSR allows test takers to retake one of the four test components, which are listening, speaking, reading or writing, within 60 days of their original test.

  • MET SSR allows test takers to retake one of the three test components, which are listening, reading or writing, within 28 days of their original test.

The current legislation already specifies the required scores, including for IELTS OSR, regardless of whether the test was taken before or after 7 August 2025.
